Arif Jamil is an Iraqi–Danish visual artist based in Copenhagen. He studied graphic design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Baghdad. His artistic practice brings Mesopotamian heritage and Eastern cultural traditions into dialogue with modern and contemporary Western art.
Working primarily in oil on canvas, he explores the human figure, memory, everyday life and history. Drawing on expressionism and cubism, he reshapes forms through free, expressive lines, overlapping shapes and altered proportions, moving beyond rigid geometric structures to develop a visual language of his own.
Alongside his paintings, Jamil creates black-ink sketches, including psychological sketches that explore personal experiences and inner states through direct lines and the contrast between black and white.
